The author has been working on this research for more than 16 years. In these three volumes he analyses over 5000 texts dedicated to Aleko Konstantiov. For 10 years Gavrail Panchev examines all texts for the author of "Bai Ganyo", published in Bulgaria.
 
According to professor Svetozar Igov (Bulgarian Academy of Science), the biography of Aleko Konstantinov from Gavrail Panchev is the most comprehensive and thorough study of this topic. The book fills a huge gap in research of the writer Aleko Konstantinov – his previous biography  was published more than 40 years ago.

The aim of the volumes, in the words of the author, is not only to explore from contemporary  perspective the literary, social, legal and political activities of Aleko Konstantinov, but also to develop an alternative to his famous character Bai Ganyo and his influence on culture in Bulgaria. On "Bay Ganyo" has been dedicated thousands of pages, but Aleko Konstantinov remains outside the scope of attention.

Biography 1

The first part of the biography explores the early life of Aleko Konstantinov in a wide context - the story of his home town Svishtov, his family and relations to Christianity. The book investigates the history of the famous secondary school in the town of Gabrovo in relation to Konstantinov’s education. His studying in Russia is discussed as related to political, economic, ideological and educational factors from history of Russia in this period.

The second volume investigates the professional and socio-political activities of Aleko Konstantinov between 1885 and 1897: his attitude towards law, legal work and in detail his habilitation and attempt to apply for an Associate Professor at Sofia University; his travel notes and feuilletons. One of the main focuses of the book is its aim to provide a contemporary interpretation of “Bai Ganyo: Incredible Tales of a Modern Bulgarian”.

The third volume of the biography is entirely dedicated to the murder of Aleko Konstantinov on 05.11.1897 in an approach which is entirely new in the investigations of this subject. Described and discussed are different interpretations:
- The political Murder: the only one previous version for the murder of Konstantinov;
- The ‘scoundrelly’ murder: this is the thesis of the ruling People's Democratic Party, expressed in the pages of the newspapers "Peace" and "Progress;
- The ‘magic’ murder;
- The syncretic murder. Extensively described and additionally explored is the legal aspect of the murder based on legal documents and acts of the National Assembly, current to 1897 and used during the murder trial the autumn of the same year.
The book aims to restore the debate on these topics, found to be so important for the present of Bulgaria as they place a choice between two ideologies – that of Bay Ganyo or Aleko Konstantinov, as well as to our future.
