The author has been working on this research for more than 16 years. In these three volumes he analyses over 5000 texts dedicated to Aleko Konstantiov. For 10 years Gavrail Panchev examines all texts for the author of "Bai Ganyo", published in Bulgaria.
The aim of the volumes, in the words of the author, is not only to explore from contemporary perspective the literary, social, legal and political activities of Aleko Konstantinov, but also to develop an alternative to his famous character Bai Ganyo and his influence on culture in Bulgaria. On "Bay Ganyo" has been dedicated thousands of pages, but Aleko Konstantinov remains outside the scope of attention.
The first part of the biography explores the early life of Aleko Konstantinov in a wide context - the story of his home town Svishtov, his family and relations to Christianity. The book investigates the history of the famous secondary school in the town of Gabrovo in relation to Konstantinov’s education. His studying in Russia is discussed as related to political, economic, ideological and educational factors from history of Russia in this period.
The second volume investigates the professional and socio-political activities of Aleko Konstantinov between 1885 and 1897: his attitude towards law, legal work and in detail his habilitation and attempt to apply for an Associate Professor at Sofia University; his travel notes and feuilletons. One of the main focuses of the book is its aim to provide a contemporary interpretation of “Bai Ganyo: Incredible Tales of a Modern Bulgarian”.
The third volume of the biography is entirely dedicated to the murder of Aleko Konstantinov on 05.11.1897 in an approach which is entirely new in the investigations of this subject. Described and discussed are different interpretations:
